I presume that when you watch the film using VLC or a program that accepts the .srt file the subtitles are properly synchronized with the video.

If the source video uses the PAL frame-rate (25 fps) and the transcoding program changes the frame-rate, one would guess that synch problems could result.

I would experiment with using a different transcoding program.

If you're not sure that the subtitle file contains correct times, you could try to download another from this site:

Thanks. The timing is way off in VLC as well; looks like I need another set of subs.
